October 5th fundraising event showcases local microbreweries, eateries & amazing raffle prizes!
SCOTTS VALLEY – The Friends of the Scotts Valley Library hosted its first-ever ‘Hops & Harvest Festival’ event last month, and the fundraiser proved to be successful on all fronts: a great celebration with the local community and $8,000 raised to support a variety of library programs, materials and supplies.
More than 150 attendees enjoyed the library’s award-winning patio area on a beautiful fall evening. Local breweries and restaurants, including Discretion Brewery, Santa Cruz Ale Works, Seabright Brewery, Bruno’s BBQ, Mollie’s Country Café and Tony & Alba’s provided food and beer tastings, with live music by local musician Howie Kimel entertaining all. There were also generous donations from local businesses for raffle items and a live auction, including gift certificates from Otoro’s, Chocolate Visions, Papa Murphy’s, Eric’s DeliCafe, Kao Sook, Starbucks, Round Table Pizza, Jia Tella’s, Café Carbonero. Auction items included signed 49er memorabilia, and golf and beach get-away packages. The highest-grossing auction item was a Star Wars movie poster signed by the director, composer and original cast.
“We are so appreciative of how this community joins together to support the library and its programs,” said Derek Timm, president of the Friends of the Scotts Valley Library. “Local businesses and library patrons stepped up once again and made it a fun and lively evening, and one that raised money that will fund programs that make the library something we can continue to all be proud of.”
