Diane Burbank, principal of Aptos High School since 2003, recently resigned. Presented with the opportunity for a new challenge as principal at Prospect High School in Campbell, Burbank is ready to move on even though she will miss both the students and faculty at AHS. [Full Story]
Runners to get their kicks as they finish Number 36
Each year, on the fourth Sunday in July, thousands of runners from across America and around the globe come to Santa Cruz, California for the annual six-mile race to Capitola-by-the-Sea.
The 36th running of the Wharf to Wharf race, which is held this year on July 27, draws runners, joggers, and walkers from across America and around the globe. Demographically, participants from 42 different states and eight foreign countries are expected. [Full Story]
City of Scotts Valley hosts third annual 4th of July Parade
The Scotts Valley Fourth of July fireworks show has been cancelled due to the extremely dry conditions.
Hey kids, classic cars, horse and riders, clowns, marching bands, and everyone who wants to wear red, white and blue — come and join in the Scotts Valley 4th of July Parade. This, the third annual parade, starts at 3 p.m. Parade participants should be at Civic Center Drive at 2 p.m. Last year’s parade was a great hit with the kids both as participants and spectators. The Aptos Parade founder started World’s Shortest Parade as community celebration. It was 47 years ago when Lucile Aldrich and the Aptos Ladies Tuesday Evening Society celebrated the first Aptos Fourth of July Parade. Even though what began as a community celebration has expanded into a world-renowned icon, the parade still reflects the small-town, community values that were so important to its founder.
