The Rotary Club of Capitola-Aptos has partnered with New Brighton Middle School to provide new scoreboards for the school gym. New Brighton Middle School with 728 students active in PE, and approximately 200 active in competitive sports has been struggling with old and out-of-date scoreboards. Afternoon school sports programs such as basketball, volleyball and other sports now have a scoreboard system that is a much better fit for their current needs and the latest rules.
Henry Castaniada, Superintendent of Soquel Union Elementary School District, said, “On behalf of the entire Board of Trustees and community members throughout our district, we would like to recognize the outstanding donation by the Capitola/Aptos Rotary Club. Our new scoreboards look fantastic and we can’t wait to host countywide tournaments and display the great partnership that exists between the Rotary club and Soquel Union Elementary School District. We look forward to building new projects in the future with the Rotary Club and we will dedicate a plaque to honor this terrific donation.”
Andrew Wright, Assistant Principal, added “Having two new scoreboards has helped us take New Brighton Middle School’s Physical Education facilities another step closer to full renovation. It’s exciting when groups such as Rotary work with us to better the educational experience for our students.”
Funding to purchase and install the scoreboards came from the partnership of Capitola/Aptos Rotary and New Brighton Middle School. OES Scoreboards installed the new scoreboards on March 11th with the assistance of the school district maintenance people, and trained the school district people who will use and maintain them.
