“Making Sense of Investing”
By Edita McQuary
Edward Jones is a national company with representative offices throughout the country where financial advisors help clients with their financial needs. Cheryl Rebottaro, educated at the College of Financial Planning, has been working as a financial advisor in Scotts Valley since 2004 and started at Edward Jones in 2010.
Like a well-known financial television personality, Cheryl has also worked as a waitress for a number of years, enabling her to develop excellent people skills with a non-judgmental solution-based approach. Originally from Southern California, she has lived in the Scotts Valley area for 27 years, loves it, and considers herself a native.
Her goal is to help people with their financial needs, including retirement, investing, savings for college, life insurance, long-term care insurance and estate strategy. She enjoys working with multi-generational families and helping them plan their many financial objectives. Her approach is to listen to people express their needs and problems and then help them figure out how to get to their goal by formulating a strategy. She has tools and software at her fingertips to accomplish this. Once their plan is in place, she will monitor its progress and meet with her clients regularly.
Although she does not offer debt/credit counseling, she is able to refer people to reliable consultants who can help. Once the clients’ finances have improved and they are ready to invest, Cheryl is available to help them make sound decisions.
Extremely community-minded and active with the Scotts Valley Rotary for a number of years, Cheryl is currently the Assistant Governor for Area 7 Rotary Club Presidents in Santa Cruz County. She says she loves Rotary because of its purely humanitarian philosophy. She has been to Guatemala to help with a health fair in Uspantan for Mayan children. For the past two years, Cheryl and her friend, Laureen Yungmeyer, have lead the Interact Club, the junior version of Rotary International, at Scotts Valley Middle School. Their group of motivated teens has provided Easter baskets for the children at the Rebele Homeless Shelter and various rehab facilities. They have raised funds for an admired Scotts Valley businessman’s medical expenses and have participated in many other charitable activities.
In addition to her professional and humanitarian activities, Cheryl also enjoys music and entertainment so much that in her “spare time” she plays in not one, but two local rock and roll bands: “Back to Nowhere” and “Hey, Moe.” Which is having its debut this New Year’s Eve at Malone’s in Scotts Valley.
A plaque on Cheryl’s office wall was given to her by her favorite Edward James business coach. The plaque has a hammer with the saying, “I have the ability to explain to people things that no one ever took the time to explain. “ It is to remind her of how important it is to take the time to communicate with her clients.
