The passing of Measure R would continue current County library funding by continuing a one-quarter cent sales tax originally passed by voters in 1996. By voting YES we can sustain our libraries with NO increase in taxes.
Without Measure R, the current funding level will be reduced by over half, forcing drastic cuts in book collections, services, and reducing hours. [Full Story]

The Aptos spring sports program has had an extraordinary number of successes and surprises. Here are some of them.
Mariners Baseball
Most visible in spring 2008 has been the baseball team. With its roster of former major league players as coaches (Randy Kramer and Mark Eichhorn), and a generation of players who took part in the 2002 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, this team that has been ranked nationally since the 2007 season. The Mariners have four more SCCAL games before the CCS post-season begins. [full story]
Aptos artist and restaurateur, Manuel Santana is participating in an extraordinary art exhibit through April 20 "Eight Over 80 In '08" at the Pajaro Valley Arts Council (PVAC) Gallery in Watsonville. Honoring the life work of eight outstanding local artists over the age of eighty, this exhibition includes poetry, visual arts and magic.
"Eight Over 80 In '08" features ten of Santana's bold acrylic paintings, lithographs, woodcuts, and etchings. The exhibiting artists, Marta Gaines, Al Johnsen, Doug McClellan, Manuel Santana, Helen Slater, Betty Smith, Carol Summers, and Don Weygandt are extraordinary individuals who have demonstrated artistic excellence in creating their bodies of work; made significant contributions to our community as teachers, mentors, and role models; influenced this community's artistic and social growth; and are currently active in expressing their creativity.
